Really enjoyed reading this as it reaffirmed the way I feel about cultivating respect and the way we interact with our children. What I find the trickiest though is when the emotions and actions of one child influence the other! I have a 5 yr old and a 2 yr old (and a 6 month old) and it is really challenging to manage those “out-of-control” situations sometimes!

Kat, I’m in the same situation myself! Everett is nearly 5 and my little one is nearly 2. I have to get at the two of them several times a day already getting at each other, and man, oh man, it’s a different ball game when they’re tag teaming against mommy! Another article, perhaps?? 🙂

Thank you, Acacia! This article is timely, as my three-year-old has begun to act disrespectfully, and my husband and I are bewildered about how best to respond. We think he’s trying out some behavior he’s seen at preschool, and he’s also been stressed out about the arrival of his little brother. Seeing the sources of the behavior, though, isn’t the same as seeing how to respond!
