Beyond Discipline: A Chat With Dr. Laura of Peaceful Parent, Happy Kids
We were so happy to host a live chat this past week with Dr. Laura Markham, author of Aha Parenting and Peaceful Parent, Happy Kids: How to Stop Yelling and Start Connecting.
If you missed the chat, you can listen to it here:
NPN Live Call with Dr. Laura
Dr. Laura introduced her book on gentle discipline and then fielded questions from callers on gentle discipline topics. She discussed how to set boundaries, how to encourage good eating habits, how to defuse sibling rivalry, how to connect with older children, and more.
Dr. Laura’s speaking tone and advice are empathetic yet effective. This is how our reviewer, Jennifer of Hybrid Rasta Mama, described it in terms of Dr. Laura’s book:
First, while Dr. Laura does not talk down to the reader, she doesn’t present information in some esoteric, can’t-wrap-your-brain-around-it way, either. She is clear and gentle, yet effective in the research and methodology she outlines in the book. Basically, she speaks to your heart in a way that gets it to open up without making you feel horrible about your past shortcomings as a parent.
Be sure to enter our giveaway for Dr. Laura’s book, Peaceful Parent, Happy Kids: How to Stop Yelling and Start Connecting. It ends December 15 and is open worldwide, so enter now to win a copy!
And if you missed last week’s call, you can join Dr. Laura again on Tuesday, December 4, 2012, when she joins Dionna of Code Name: Mama to talk about Regulating Your Own Emotions. Your own emotional wholeness will determine how deeply you can connect with your child. Dr. Laura will discuss how we can work on ourselves so that we can respond appropriately to and connect with our children.
