Christine Powell, who blogs at African Babies Don’t Cry, is a part of Natural Parents Network’s Social Media team as well as our Review and Giveaways team. She lives in South Africa with her son, Jesse, on the same property as her parents. She feels that living near her parents has eased her transition to single parenthood, with minimal fuss. She works from home, so that she and Jesse can spend their days together, and looks forward to homeschooling her children.

Christine has a passion for healthy, natural living, and her favorite posts reflect that. She plans to start studying as a holistic nutritional coach in the coming year. She is proud to be bringing Jesse up in the healthiest way she can, with extended breastfeeding, a nourishing diet of whole foods, and plenty of time in the outdoors. Her favorite blog posts are about natural nutrition. She says, “I enjoy doing the research and bettering my own and my son’s diet as I go along.” Christine is happy that her work has helped others reconsider the way they approach eating.

Christine has been surprised at how confident motherhood has made her. She is especially glad that she decided not to follow the well-meaning advice her family gave her: to let her son sleep in a cot, to not hold him all the time, to start solids early. “Jesse simply slept better when he was in the bed with me. He didn’t gripe if he was in my arms and I couldn’t bring myself to leave him to cry.” She followed her instincts, and he has developed into a healthy and happy toddler. She has also been overwhelmed, in a positive way, by the all-consuming nature of motherhood. Her passions in life have changed a great deal since Jesse came into it: “I now see life through my son’s eyes, and try to make the world a better place for him,” she says. As someone who has had the honor of getting to know Christine through the Natural Parents Network, I can say that I see her actively making the world a better place every day. Thank you, Christine!

  1. Following my instincts as a mother has not only helped my daughter, but I never feel conflicted in what I’m doing and what others think I should be doing. I know what’s best for my daughter. It’s the best advice to get as a parent!

    Thanks for featuring Christine!

  2. Thanks so much for this lovely feature, Melissa (and Shannon)! :)
