Giveaway: Autographed Birth Matters by Ina May Gaskin $17 {6.6; Worldwide} CLOSED

This giveaway is now closed.  Please stay tuned for the announcement of our winner.  Thank you all for entering!

This is a joint giveaway cross-posted on Hobo Mama Reviews and Natural Parents Network. You may enter at one site only. Please find the section marked “Win it!” for the mandatory main entry and optional bonus entries.

From our reviewer, Lauren of Hobo Mama:

Birth Matters by Ina May GaskinI had the joy of hearing midwife Ina May Gaskin speak in Seattle and would like to offer my Ina May-signed copy of Birth Matters: A Midwife’s Manifesta to one reader who wasn’t lucky enough to have seen her in person!

(You can read my full account of Ina May Gaskin’s presentation at Hobo Mama, and find Amy of Anktangle’s take on her blog.)

Birth Matters is Ina May Gaskin’s latest book, published just this year.

The book is described here as “a spirited manifesta showing us how to trust women, value birth, nurture families, and reconcile modern life with a process as old as our species.”

I’ve resisted reading this copy so I don’t ruin it for the winner, and I’m still in line for it at the library. But in a brief flip-through, I’m already entranced.

Don’t you adore the cover? That’s Ina May herself with her newborn son Samuel.

The book is worth $17 (plus the priceless autograph!), and I will gladly mail it anywhere in the world.

The contest ends June 6, because it’s my anniversary and sounds pretty. I’ll most likely even have gone through my next birth by then!

I love midwives for so many reasons. I love that they really get to know you and they take all the time you need in a visit and don’t rush things. It’s so important to feel like you’re really being listened to especially when pregnant.

What I like about midwives (well, my midwife at least) is that her priority is for my baby and me to have our best possible birth experience. She doesn’t make decisions based on what’s easier for her. She’s a friend I can trust. Also, I have her cell phone number and can call her anytime :-)

  6. Beth Hansen

I think midwives are the way to go because babies should be birthed in the most natural environment possible. I wish I had known about midwives when I was having my babies, and I hope to train to become one myself after I am done with my naturopathic schooling.

Midwives just present such a calming environment. Natural, nurturing, your motivation and encouragement.
