From our reviewer, Dionna at Code Name: Mama:

About Blessed Nest

Blessed Nest was created when Heather Anderson’s friend, Donna, asked for Heather’s help in designing a nursing pillow that would fit her needs. Donna had a very active and wiggly baby and a painful cesarean incision, and the pillows she’d tried did not feel comfortable. “Stacks of pillows wouldn’t stay in place, one popular nursing pillow had to be strapped on and the other one wouldn’t fit around her without causing more problems than it solved. And the thing that all of those pillows had in common was that they just made her feel awkward and frustrated rather than the confident, nurturing mom we both knew she was.”1

Heather put her creativity to work and designed the very first Nesting Pillow, and Donna loved it so much that the two decided to make it a business. Heather is proud that Blessed Nest “was founded in friendship, love and motherhood.” One of the best things about Blessed Nest is that their products are made in the US by mamas just like you!

Blessed Nest isn’t just a business, though, it is a natural family living community. The women of Blessed Nest have collaborated with several other nurturing-minded parents to bring you a blog full of natural family living goodness. The Blessed Nest Perch has articles on child safety and wellness, family health, holistic nutrition, and more.

The Nesting Pillow

I have been enjoying this pillow since I received it in my second trimester. As most pregnant mamas know, you need more support once your belly starts growing, and this pillow was lovely. I used it most often in front of my body between my knees. The buckwheat hulls inside conform to the shape of your body with a little plumping, so you can make it as thin or thick as is comfortable for you.

As evidenced by my post on the many uses of the Nesting Pillow, I found many other ways to use the pillow while pregnant: as support during squatting or yoga, for back support, and to help hold me up during a back rub. And now that I have a little one, there are even more!

To give you an action example of how easy and comfortable it is to nurse with the Nesting Pillow, my hubby created this video of me nursing sweet Ailia (you can see a pictorial guide on how to nurse a newborn with the Nesting Pillow at The Blessed Nest Perch’s Nesting Pillow Guide):

Here is the lowdown on the Nesting Pillow from their website:

What makes the Nesting Pillow different is that the filling allows you to get your baby into the proper position, and then it conforms to baby’s body and its weight helps it to stay put. The miracle of buckwheat hulls is that they move around like a bean-bag and then interlock together like puzzle pieces, giving stable support whatever size, shape or position you are in (and where you’re sitting!).

The Nesting Pillow is about 26″ wide, 16″ deep and 5″ high. The inside pillow is made of 100% organic cotton* canvas (from a US mill!) and can be spot cleaned and thrown in the dryer for about 15 minutes to keep it sanitized and free of dust mites. Of course, the slipcover is really easy to take off and get back on, so you can wash it with your regular laundry as often as you need to.

There are 7 beautiful slipcovers to choose from, and you can buy them separately so that you have an extra on hand. I got the Paloma print, but I also love Kaleidoscope and Pink Willow.

The Nest Egg

I sweet-talked Blessed Nest into selling me the Nest Egg at a discounted price, and so I wanted to share a little bit about this pillow as well. Kieran quickly confiscated this comfy pillow for use under his head, but there are many other ways you can use it.

It could be an extra lift under your breast, arm, or elbow while nursing or simply holding a baby. It makes a great travel or toddler pillow. And our favorite use is as a surrogate hand on those rare occasions Ailia actually lets me lay her down to sleep by herself. I put the Nest Egg so that it rests on her chest and I can move my hand away from her. Obviously you need to be extremely careful about where you put it, and vigilant that the pillow does not slip anywhere near baby’s face.

You can purchase your own Nesting Pillow or Nest Egg by ordering directly from the Blessed Nest website. Amazon also carries several Blessed Nest products.
