From our reviewer, Dionna at Code Name: Mama:
About Monkey Baby Naturals
I am super pleased to introduce you to Monkey Baby Naturals, where you will find natural, organic personal care products for the whole family. Terri is the mama behind Monkey Baby Naturals. Like so many of us, Terri was inspired to eliminate toxic products from her home after the birth of her daughter.
Not only do the toxins in common household chemicals affect babies more than they do adults, natural products are less likely to cause rashes or allergenic reactions on babies’ delicate skin.
Terri’s daughter also inspired the name of her shop. When she was pregnant with her first daughter, she knew that her nickname would be “monkey baby,” because she never stopped moving. That has been her nickname ever since, and now, at four years old, she still never stops moving!
Terri is just about one of the sweetest WAHMs you will ever meet. She is truly dedicated to helping her customers find products that will work for them and enrich their lives. When I mentioned that my husband was having a hard time transitioning to the natural deodorant she sent him to sample, she offered to send a different one, just in case he would have better luck with a different blend of essential oils.
You can be assured that the ingredients in Terri’s products are of the highest quality. She uses the finest organic herbs, oils, and butters; no synthetics, no fillers.
When I look at the ingredient list of a product for Ailia’s skin, I want to be familiar with each ingredient. Even better? I’d want to feel safe eating it. Looking at Terri’s products, I trust that Ailia will be safe.
In the Unscented Organic Baby Goo, the ingredients list includes:
Helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil* infused with Stellaria media (chickweed)*, Althaea officinalis (marshmallow root)*, Matricaria recutita* (chamomile)*, Plantago major (plantain leaf)*, & Calendula officinalis (calendula)*; Vitellaria Nilotica Shea Fruit Butter*, Cocos nucifera (extra virgin coconut oil)*, Simmondsia chinensis
(jojoba oil)*, Cera alba (beeswax)
For the Boogie Goo (Terri’s Herbal Eucalyptus Chest Rub Salve), the ingredients are:
Helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil* infused with Matricaria recutita (chamomile)*, Simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) oil*, Eucalyptus smithii oil, Ravensara aromatica oil*, Lavandula angustifolia (lavender) oil*, Melaleuca alternifolia (tea tree) oil*, Citrus reticulata (mandarin) oil*
*USDA Certified Organic Ingredient
Terri chooses each oil and herb “specifically for its moisturizing and protective benefits.” You can read more about essential oils for children at Essential Oils for Children: The Basics and What to Use. Terri assures us that “children’s products are made with child safe essential oils and in small amounts. Deodorants contain essential oils that will combat odors and have a fresh scent that will last.” She does not “overwhelm products with essential oils as that can cause skin irritations.”
But aside from reading about the care with which Terri creates her products, I have used several of them firsthand: Baby Goo, Boogie Goo, Lavender Deodorant, and Lip Balm. Everything is natural, soothing, and safe. I feel good using them on myself and my children, and I will continue to be a Monkey Baby Naturals customer.
About Baby Goo
Terri sent me the Organic Unscented Baby Goo to try. “This multipurpose herbal salve is made with organic ingredients and gentle enough for use on diaper area and body to soothe and moisturize.” If anyone in your family has dry or sensitive skin, you can use Baby Goo to help provide relief to the whole family from newborn to adult. There are no essential oils added that may irritate sensitive skin.
We’ve used Baby Goo on Ailia several times. Once when she had (what we’re sure was) Fifth’s Disease – she was covered in a rash, and we used it to soothe her in case she was feeling itchy or irritated. I was very pleased that the Baby Goo did not seem to leave a greasy feel to her skin, nor did I notice any stains on her clothes.
We’ve also used Baby Goo on Ailia’s diaper area when she’s eaten something that has not agreed with her. It does seem soothing to her, and I have not seen any ill effects on our cloth diapers.
As I write this, Ailia has Baby Goo on her face – she reacted to something she ate and broke out in a red rash on her cheeks and chin. She rubbed her face repeatedly on my shirt, so I put some Baby Goo on to soothe her skin. It did seem to help her – at any rate she’s now asleep nursing on my lap.
About Boogie Goo
Boogie Goo is a soothing herbal salve for little ones 6 months and up. While eucalyptus essential oils are usually too strong for use with children, Terrie uses the mildest form of eucalyptus. It is gentle enough for young children, but it is still effective.
Reach for Boogie Goo to help soothe congestion in little ones with colds or the flu. And another nice thing about Boogie Goo is its packaging – “it is packaged in an airless pump so you don’t have to touch the product in the jar when there is sickness in your house.”
About Natural Organic Deodorant
I have been obsessed about finding a natural deodorant for years. I stopped using my mainstream deodorant when I had Kieran. I decided that Kieran’s head was up next to my armpit – and the chemicals were in my bloodstream – too much so for comfort.
I have tried several natural deodorants since then, and I’ve been dissatisfied with all of them. But I’m actually going to buy more of the Lavender & Tea Tree Natural Deodorant from Monkey Baby Naturals. I’ve been using this since August when it reached 100+ degrees, and it has worked for me.
Immediately prior to using this stick, I was trying a homemade concoction made up of coconut oil, tea tree oil, lavender oil, and baking soda. After two weeks, it had caused me to break out in a mean rash (too much TTO perhaps?). I gave my pits a few days’ break and then started with the Monkey Baby Naturals stick. My rash cleared up and it worked! I don’t smell like sweaty person.
From Terri’s description: “This all-natural stick deodorant is made with organic ingredients that keeps odor away and gives you a nice fresh scent all day, while at the same time soothes and softens your skin.”
The stick I have is made with Bob’s Red Mill 100% Aluminum Free Baking Soda, arrowroot powder, extra virgin coconut oil, Shea butter, beeswax, lavender essential oil, and tea tree essential oil.
Terri makes several different scents: lavender; sage, tea tree and lemon; geranium, rosemary and lime; palmarosa and tea tree; and lemon, clove and patchouli. There are scents that will smell just right on both men and women.
As with any natural deodorant, these are not antiperspirants. “Sweating is natural and removes toxins from our body, so we do not want to suppress it. However, after switching to an all natural deodorant, you may find that you sweat less naturally.”
If you’d like to switch to a natural deodorant, late fall/winter is the best time to do it – you can adjust without the sweltering heat.
Terri also sent me an herbal lip balm to try. It was soothing and subtle and was promptly stolen by Kieran for his own use.
Monkey Baby Naturals are effective and non-toxic personal care products for your daily use. I highly recommend them!
You can purchase your own Monkey Baby Naturals on Etsy. Baby Goo starts at $12.99, Boogie Goo is $8.49, and deodorant is $8.49.
