She would bite as she latched on and when the nipple was in her mouth, begin sucking. I tried everything to stop this behavior to no avail. Then my friend suggested that it may be the straw sippy cup that was causing her to bite. The straw sippy cup by Nubi has a straw that in order to get liquid out, you must bite down first(to open the slit) and then suck. While my daughter LOVED the cup and drank a lot of water using it, it was teaching her to “bite and then suck”. I stopped using the cup and after a week, no more biting! Nubi obviously did not make that cup with the nursing mother in mind. Jessica Lang @ Cloth Diapering Mama clothmamajess February 3, 2011 at 9:41 am I have 2 scars from biting nurslings…one from each child…prevention methods are good to have 🙂 Momma Jorje February 6, 2011 at 9:10 pm It looks like you have some great feedback for solutions! I just want to add, “this too shall pass.” I’m sure you’re not going to STOP breastfeeding because of this bad habit and he *will* stop, I promise. 🙂 It might seem like forever now, but it will just be a blip when you’re fondly recalling your BF days with him. Michelle Ginther allboymama February 20, 2011 at 2:10 am All my boys have bit me, but I learned to be quick to break a chomp down. Depending on how hard of a chomp they gave me I’d try to nurse immediately after breaking their bite while holding lower part of their jaw to get a wide latch or just try again later.
