We have two dogs and I typically opt to take them to a DIY doggie wash (much clean up with large long haired dogs at home!) but the shampoos they have there are unmarked, watered down and honestly not very nice. I’ll have to give this one a shot 🙂 Maddy April 30, 2013 at 9:59 am Vinegar+soap=oil. You use an alkaline liquid (sodium hydroxide solution) to saponify the oil and make soap in the first place; introducing an acid turns soap into an oily, sludgy mess. Alternative: infuse vinegar with rosemary sprigs for a week or more. Use a whole bottle & use for the whole family! Remove sprigs. Dilute 1-2 tbsp per cup of water (distilled, spring, filtered, or softened water works best). Use solution in a spray bottle for ease of use and spray on the dog *after* rinsing shampoo mixture thoroughly. You CAN rinse it off after a little while, or you can leave it on. 🙂 The vinegar smell dissipates & leaves fur/hair smooth and shiny.
